Stocks vs Crypto in 2026: My Real Portfolio Results (34 min)

On January 1st, I split $100K evenly: • $50K → Stock market • $50K → Crypto 3 months later, the results aren't even close. Here are my ACTUAL holdings, actual returns, and what I learned 🧵👇
The stock portfolio ($50K deployed Jan 1): • $15K → VOO (S&P 500 index) • $10K → NVDA (Nvidia) • $8K → MSFT (Microsoft) • $7K → AMZN (Amazon) • $5K → PLTR (Palantir) • $5K → COIN (Coinbase) Philosophy: Heavy index base + concentrated AI/tech bets + one crypto proxy.
Stock results after Q1 2026: • VOO: $15K → $16,230 (+8.2%) • NVDA: $10K → $12,340 (+23.4%) • MSFT: $8K → $8,640 (+8.0%) • AMZN: $7K → $7,910 (+13.0%) • PLTR: $5K → $6,450 (+29.0%) • COIN: $5K → $6,150 (+23.0%) Total: $50K → $57,720 (+15.4%) Pretty solid quarter. PLTR was the surprise winner.
The crypto portfolio ($50K deployed Jan 1): • $20K → BTC (Bitcoin) • $12K → ETH (Ethereum) • $8K → SOL (Solana) • $5K → LINK (Chainlink) • $3K → AAVE (Aave) • $2K → ONDO (Ondo Finance) Philosophy: BTC heavy for stability, ETH/SOL for smart contracts, rest in DeFi blue chips.
Crypto results after Q1 2026: • BTC: $20K → $22,800 (+14.0%) • ETH: $12K → $14,760 (+23.0%) • SOL: $8K → $11,200 (+40.0%) • LINK: $5K → $6,250 (+25.0%) • AAVE: $3K → $4,140 (+38.0%) • ONDO: $2K → $3,100 (+55.0%) Total: $50K → $62,250 (+24.5%) Crypto wins this round. But the volatility was BRUTAL.
The scoreboard: 📈 Stocks: +15.4% ($7,720 profit) ₿ Crypto: +24.5% ($12,250 profit) Crypto wins by 9.1 percentage points. BUT — there's a huge asterisk. In February, my crypto portfolio dropped 22% in 10 days. My stocks? Down 4%. Returns don't tell the full story. Risk-adjusted returns do.
The Sharpe ratio reality check: • Stock portfolio Sharpe: 1.82 (excellent) • Crypto portfolio Sharpe: 1.14 (good, not great) Stocks gave me better SLEEP-ADJUSTED returns. I never once checked VOO at 3am. I checked BTC at 3am at least 12 times this quarter. That's a hidden cost.
What I learned: 1. Crypto has higher upside AND higher drawdowns 2. The best risk-adjusted portfolio is BOTH, not either/or 3. SOL and altcoins outperformed BTC this quarter (rotation is real) 4. Having a stock base makes crypto volatility tolerable 5. COIN is a cheat code — it's basically leveraged crypto with stock market hours
My Q2 adjustments: • Taking some SOL/ONDO profit → rotating into ETH (underperforming its potential) • Adding to NVDA on any dip below $950 • New position: 2% in Render (RNDR) — AI + crypto convergence • Keeping BTC allocation steady — it's the anchor Portfolio theory says rebalance. Greed says let winners run. I'm somewhere in between.
Bottom line: In 2026, you probably need BOTH. • Stocks for stability, dividends, and peace of mind • Crypto for asymmetric upside and portfolio growth • 60/40 stocks-to-crypto is my sweet spot This thread was generated by ThreadFire in 30 seconds.
